Question 1

How often should solar panels be cleaned in Florida?

Accepted Answer

Most Florida homeowners should have their solar panels professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months. Florida's pollen, dust, humidity, and bird activity build up faster than in drier climates, and buildup can reduce energy output by up to 25% if left unaddressed.

Question 2

Does dirt on solar panels really reduce efficiency?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Dirt, pollen, and grime block sunlight from reaching solar cells, which directly reduces energy production. Studies and field data show buildup can lower system output by 15-25%, meaning a dirty system quietly costs homeowners money every month.

Question 3

Is professional solar panel cleaning covered by my warranty?

Accepted Answer

Manufacturer warranties typically cover equipment defects, not routine maintenance like cleaning. However, using an unlicensed cleaner or improper cleaning methods can void your warranty. Working with a licensed solar contractor like Solar Soft helps protect your system and warranty.

Question 4

What license should a solar cleaning company have?

Accepted Answer

In Florida, a company performing work on solar systems should hold an active Solar Contracting License. Solar Soft holds license CVC57318, making it one of the only licensed solar contractors in the state that specializes specifically in solar panel cleaning.

Question 5

Can I clean my own solar panels instead of hiring a professional?

Accepted Answer

DIY cleaning carries real risk — improper tools, hard water, or harsh detergents can scratch panels or void your warranty. Professional cleaning uses solar-safe brushes, filtered water, and non-ionic detergents to protect the system while restoring performance.
